I Dabbed in Front of the Mona Lisa.

This is true. But before I explain myself, let me tell you the story about why The Mona Lisa is so famous, because it’s something I’m obsessed with.

Who is Mona??!?

It took Da Vinci 16 years to paint Miss Mona and it is thought that she was the wife of a merchant in Florence. A lot of people think The Mona Lisa is so famous because she was STOLEN from The Lourve and remained missing for TWO YEARS (hidden in the apartment of an italian museum worker who believed the painting should be returned to its rightful place in Italy) nevertheless, the painting was finally recovered and returned to The Lourve! Huzzah!

I don’t think she is famous JUST because she was stolen. The techniques Da Vinci used to paint her required an incredible amount of talent. If you look at a higher quality image of the painting, she is wearing a veil. Veils are VERY thin and very difficult to paint, and Da Vinci, like the goat he is, painted a veil on her.

He also used such thin layers of paint to create different illusions within it. THat’s WHYYYYY some people say her eyes follow you or some say that she is smiling and others say she isn’t…this is no coincidence!! Da Vinci just PAINTED HER THAT WAY. PROBABLY WHY IT TOOK 16 YEARS. Beautiful wonderful masterpiece Mona. Oh I adore her.

For context, I didn’t know any of that background information before I saw it in person, I found out everything after (which is devastating because I dabbed (dance move) in front of her. I can’t believe that. I dabbed in front of her because the dance move was huge at the time and I didn’t think anyone else in the world had done that before and I wanted to be the first. I’m just now realizing Da Vinci probably ROLLED OVER IN HIS GRAVE when he saw that a stupid American girl DABBED IN FRONT OF HIS MASTERPIECE. So disrespectful of me but kind of iconic?)
